Secure File Transfer

One of the simplest use cases for Cloak Labs’ service is a bi-directional secure file exchange. In this scenario two or more companies seek to securely exchange files without any intermediary having access to their contents! Almost all cloud-based file exchange systems (Box, DropBox, ShareFile, Hightail) use TLS (SSL) encryption up to their cloud servers. From a security point of view however, this means the operators of such systems have access to your unencrypted data (See post on valet parking your data). Almost invariably, the operators of cloud-based storage and file transfer solutions own the keys, not you. With Cloak Labs, encryption happens on-premises with keys that only the sender and recipient(s) control. We have no access to unencrypted content and neither does any government agency or attacker. The general flow is illustrated below:

In the above scenario, each enterprise maintains an outbox folder intended for the other. The Cloak Labs Security Gateway automatically picks up any new files that are dropped into the folder, encrypts them, then delivers them. The receiving Security Gateway decrypts these files and puts them into an inbox for access by users or any workflow process. Document flow in the opposite direction is also enabled with mirror outbox-to-inbox combinations. Some of the key benefits of this approach are:
